Breaker! Breaker! Truckers Needed
Trucking achieved national attention during the 1960’s and 70s as songs and movies, such as Burt Reynolds’ 1977 movie, Smokey and the Bandit, were major hits. While many of the movies and songs looked at trucking from an entertainment standpoint, it is a vital industry.
According to government data (https://data.bts.gov/stories/s/Moving-Goods-in-the-United-States/bcyt-rqmu/), in 2018, the U.S. Transportation system moved a daily average of 51 million tons of freight valued at more than $51.8 billion. Before you take the time to calculate how much this is annually, let’s just agree that it’s a HUGE amount. In 2018, it was estimated that over 67% of all goods were moved by trucks.
Likely this is not news to Lehigh Valley residents as the proliferation of trucks on area roads is a polarizing topic. For some, trucking, and the warehouses to which they deliver their goods to and from, represent employment opportunities. They also satisfy our need for instant gratification, for, without trucks and local warehouses, Amazon and others can’t provide the same day delivery services we now demand. Others long for the days when area roads were less congested, and the Valley’s cities were surrounded by rolling fields of green.
Regardless of how you feel about trucking’s impact on our quality of life, it is hard to dispute that, for today and the foreseeable future, we will need to rely on trucking to move our goods. Recently, a concern was raised in an article published by https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-xpress-ceo-driver-shortage-trucking-industry-202632404.html
that the U.S is currently experiencing a serious shortage of truck drivers. While concerning, this is an opportunity for those seeking an in-demand job, which can offer a livable wage and scheduling flexibility.
Over the past few years, we have helped several truckers establish their business and, in many cases, we provided the funding for the purchase of a rig and/or trailer.
